Morrison sho ws how these stereotypes tormented the brains of many, sometimes to the point of losing their minds. The black community was taunted by the white people, and Morrison made the focus of the novel a young group of little girls who are just realizing the horrors of the world. Not only does the novel discuss racism and it’s effect on the black community, but it discusses the unrealistic expectations of beauty in our society. Even the title of the novel â€Å"The Bluest Eye† displays a stereotypical viewpoint of beauty. For example in the story Pecola Breedlove yearns to have blue eyes. She hopes that one day she will be able to transform, and therefore be loved by others because of her new blue eyes. Eventually, Pecola goes crazy, thinking that she has the bluest eyes. Toni Morrison discussing an issue such as racism and unrealistic beauty standards is surely not what I call a safe call, but instead, a bold and intimidating one. Culture that is widely consumed or liked, which can be measured through investigation of sales is one thought, but this then leads to further debate over what figure is set as popular. There is also the idea that whatever is left from high culture becomes its popular counterpart, but this then leads to conflict over what high culture is as certain texts or practices have at one point been part of both. An example of this being Shakespeares plays, which at the time of writing would have been seen as popular culture, but are now seen as high culture. Even temporarily it’s not easy to manage without the people you love. Odysseus waited 20 years of his life without any contact of his family in this epic titled â€Å"The Odysseus† by Homer. Odysseus is in a 10 year war and faces many obstacles on his journey back home. Meanwhile his family is struggling with his absence. Odysseus, Penelope, and Telemachus all possess the heroic traits of cleverness, strength, and bravery. Odysseus, Penelope, and Telemachus are all heroic because of their cleverness. â€Å"†¦We could see her working on her great web all day long, but at night she would unpick the stiches again by torchlight. This is important because with his help Odysseus was able to get rid of the suitors from their home. Odysseus uses the â€Å"wooden horse trick† to win the Trojan War. This portrays Odysseus cleverness when devising such a great plan for it to end after fighting 1 0 long years. This is vital because it defines Odysseus not only of strength but also of brain. In these various examples our heroes have proven themselves by their outstanding achievement and use of cleverness to overcome all odds. Odysseus, Penelope, and Telemachus are all heroic because they are strong. Penelope stays faithful to Odysseus for 20 years. This shows her everlasting faith in her husband, with no shred of proof he’s still even alive, but yet she still believed. That type of mental insight is what pilled her through those 20 years and is also what makes her the hero she is. Odysseus survives 10 years of carnage in the Trojan War. This clearly illustrates his strength as a warrior to survive for such an extensive period of time on enemy soil. This is a key characteristic that defines Odysseys not only as a warrior but also as a hero. â€Å"So these now fell upon the suitors in that hall† (Homer 400). So how does one go about doing this, when you feel defeated and unemployable? Well, it’s not an easy process, but getting back in the game as quickly as possible is what you need to do.1. Thus I choose not to share such matters with anyone as it creates a sense of animosity between people belonging to different races and ethnicities. The cultural events and occasions have strengthened my perspective upon life and my childhood is full of festivities, cultural exchange, weddings, death anniversaries and so on. I believe all of these points form up as strong basis for my association with my self-identity and this is one characteristic within my personality that I am in love with. My feelings for these occasions and incidents are tied with emotion and a sense of belonging all the same while I have tried my best to remain attached to my roots in the wake of both happiness and grief - a very quintessential feature of my values and the overall upbringing. 4. Writing With Description Essay Before you begin your paragraph, you have to be sure to pick something that is worth describing. If you want to describe a character, make sure the person is interesting in some way. If you want to describe an object, make sure it has some deeper meaning beyond itself so you have enough to write about. If you pick a place, make sure you can describe it in a unique way that can capture a readers attention. For example, in the opening pages of _The Catcher in the Rye,_ Holden Caulfield describes a baseball mitt. You can start with what the reader can see and appeal to his or her sense of sight to help introduce the object. Since sight is the most helpful sense, any good descriptive paragraph must  first discuss what the writer wants the reader to visualize. Using strong adjectives to illustrate your scene, moment, experience or item to the reader will help provide a visual picture in your readers mind. Keep in mind that, while adjectives can help convey a sense of the subject, overusing them can lead to boring, overwrought writing. But it is mistaken to learn from someone's behaviour about other people's. Actually, most psychotherapy is nothing but the effort to disentangle past from present, to teach the patient that the past is gone and has no reign over him anymore, unless the patient lets it to. Our natural tendency is to trust, because we trust our parents. It feels good to really trust. It is also an essential component of love and an important test. Love without trust is dependence masquerading as love. We must trust, it is almost biological. Most of the time, we do trust. We trust the Universe to behave itself according to the laws of physics, our army not to go mad and shoot us all, our nearest and dearest not to betray us. When trust is broken, the feeling is that a part of us dies, is hollowed out. Not to trust is abnormal and is the natural result of bitter or even traumatic life experiences. Mistrust or distrust are induced not by our own thoughts, nor by some device or machination of ours - but by life's sad circumstances. To continue not to trust is to reward the people who wronged us and made us distrustful in the first place. These people have long abandoned us and still they have a great, malignant, influence on our lives. This is the irony of the lack of trust . So, some of us prefer not to experience this sinking feeling: not to trust and not to be disappointed. This is both a fallacy and a folly. Trusting releases enormous amounts of mental energy, which could be better invested elsewhere.

The protein fraction from 70 percent saturation of recrystallised ammonium sulphate was found to have the maximum protein content (19.6 mg/g flower) and hence it was selected for further studies and is abbreviated as PAF in the present study. 4.2.1 Characterization of the selected PAF by Native PAGE and SDS PAGE The selected PAF was characterized by column chromatography. This showed a single peak and was further characterized in native PAGE and SDS page. The results are shown in Plate the SDS-PAGE analysis of the ammonium sulphate precipitated protein extract showed 15 different protein bands with good visibility in CBB R250 staining method (Figure). Of the several bands obtained in 70 per cent saturation of ammonium sulphate, the major band alone was eluted. In order to find out the presence of subunits in this band, it was further subjected to SDS PAGE. The results showed one major protein indicating the absence of subunits. The molecular weight of this protein was found to be 99 KD when compared to the standard molecular markers. 4.3. Fifty percent effective dose of selected protein fraction of Plumeria alba The free radical scavenging capacity of PFC was tested by its ability to bleach the stable DPPH. The DPPH (2,2 diphenyl -1- picryl hydrazyl) radical scavenging activity was carried out using different concentrations of PFC (Figure). The radical scavenging activity was found to be dose dependent. Two factors which affected the Stuart economy of 1600-1660

The Stuart economy is always difficult to analyse. Unfortunately due to incomplete records we only have a rough idea of the economic growth that England underwent during this era. For example we do not have fully accurate records that state the exact population size at the time. We also therefore do not have accurate records on the economy either but from parish records and events during this period it is still possible to make informed conclusions on what the economy was like, and the factors that stimulated it. The first thing that is important to study when discussing the economy is the population size. According to records found in parishes at the time population was generally on the increase and rose from 4 to 5 million between 1600 and 1660. However although the population did rise considerably it was certainly not a steady increase and went through phases of decline as well as increase. Surprisingly, according to information now available, some year's burial rates were actually higher than baptism rates, suggesting a population decline. However due to the fact that these records are sometimes incomplete it is not possible to give completely accurate figures about the changes in population during this era. Some historians argue that these changes in population growth point to the fact that the Stuart economy was vastly agrarian. This theory is widely accepted as being true, it successfully answers the reason for very drastic changes in the population size in some areas as agrarian economy can be easily dislocated by bad winters and poor harvests. Also the records of bad harvests coincide with drops in population during this period, suggesting that the economy of the Stuart era was finding it very difficult to keep up with demand. In order to combat this rise in demand, farmers would need to innovate and experiment with new crops in order to compete. Some historians argue that this period due to the population increase led to a ‘farming revolution' as there is evidence that many villages adopted the concept of enclosure in order to become more productive. This commercialisation of farming is thought by many to be more popular than the previously adopted method of subsistence farming. (Growing enough to feed you and your immediate family. ) This technique of enclosure meant farmers were able to be more productive and meet higher demands and is generally accepted as a more efficient system than subsistence farming. This enclosure method of once community owned fields is thought to be the start of early capitalism in England, the commercialisation of the fields is therefore thought to be brought about by the pressures of a population on the increase. But were farmers of this period willing to innovate, experiment and try new techniques? Evidence found in the diary of an ordinary farmer of the period is a strong argument that farmers were willing to trial new crops. Robert Loder left a diary concerning his farming and the changes he made to his techniques and crops. It is possible to assume that this ordinary farmer was one of many who experimented in order to boost their production. However it is still possible to argue that there was a strong amount of conservative farmers who did not adopt these new techniques but there is no evidence to suggest this. Some historians also use examples such as the adoption of tobacco crops in England as a key piece of evidence for how adventuress and innovative farmers could be once convinced of the potential of the new farming enterprise. Despite the evidence presented for innovation and experimentation there is strong evidence that suggests that farmers struggled to keep up with demand. Sources found for some areas of England suggest that there were huge rises in prices during this period due to inflation. This evidence is known as the Phelps Brown price index. Although this is one of the most commonly used sources, due to lack of information it only covers certain areas of England, mainly the south meaning that it is hard to generalise these price rises across England however it is the best information available. This rise in prices is evidence suggesting that the farmers of the Stuart economy had great difficulty despite all their innovation and experimentation to keep up with demand. However some historians still disagree. So the key question still unanswered is whether the farmers were able to keep up with constantly growing demand. Obviously it is highlighted by bad harvests how susceptible the agrarian economy was to very cold long winters and the obvious problems this could create. However equally it can be argued that through innovation and experimentation farmers managed to meet demand, however evidence of heavy inflation during the Stuart period leads many historians to the conclusion that resources were scarce and that the economy due to reliance on uncontrollable variables such as weather was not able to keep up with demand. However on the other hand it is argued by some that the farmers willingness to implement new techniques and methods of farming lead to increased productivity and was able to keep up with increased demand. However due to lack of concrete evidence this issue is still in many historians' opinions open to interpretation. Another key factor in the development of the Stuart economy was industry. Although industry only made up for around 10% of the economy it is still an important area to analyse to have a full understanding of the economic changes to took place in the Seventeenth century. Firstly it is commonly thought that the English industrial techniques were inferior to those of Europe. Most goods were thought to have been produced at home and sold locally. This technique of production suggests an undeveloped industry in England, however these limitations in manufacturing were overcome via exportation to the advanced Europe. The main industry in England at this time was textiles, located in East Anglia. In this period unfinished woollen cloth would be produced and then exported to other countries in order to create a finished product, such as the Netherlands who were thought to be the leading industrial nation of the times. The reason for exporting was purely because England lacked the techniques and resources to manufacture such products. As farming was the leading source of income in England it is thought that many industrial workers were involved in agriculture as well as the manufacturing of textiles. Although many combined farming with manufacturing and production some did seek industry as full-time employment usually through the ‘putting-out system'. Besides textiles England also produced coal, mainly mined in the north-east of England. As London grew in population the North East was able to produce more and more coal to meet demands, although limitations in technology prevented mining below the surface. However transporting vast quantities of coal is thought by many historians to have been a problem. Roads in this period were thought to be in quite a bad state, and therefore much of the coal mined was transported by sea. This transportation via sea is important. In order to transport such great amounts of coal England you would need a merchant fleet and Royal Navy to provide protection. Despite these measures the fleets that travelled between the North-East and London still suffered attacks during the wars England had with the Dutch. This is evident when we look at the prices of coal and see that prices doubled during this period suggesting heavy losses from attack. In conclusion it is probably right to suggest that industry looked for short-term solutions to meet the demands it faced, although no new techniques or technological advances are evident, this period did see the development of external trade, a key feature of the Stuart economy with the development of overseas colonies. However it can be argued that changes in agriculture and innovation were more significant, however it is still somewhat important to understand that the Stuart economy did not just rely on agriculture alone.

How to Become a Resident Adviser (RA) You may have wanted to be a resident adviser or resident assistant (RA) since the moment you first moved on campus or you may just want to explore the idea. Either way, youve ideally carefully considered the pros and cons of the position and are now looking to get your application in. What should you expect? And how can you be sure that your application stands out from the crowd? The RA application process varies, so youll need to check with the office that manages residence life at your college to get to know the specific requirements at your school. While this may not be the exact process you experience, the following overview can help you prepare to apply and interview for an RA position. Step One: The  Application What youll be asked to do: Most colleges and universities have prospective RAs fill out a several-page application, either online or in hard copy. Youll be asked about your involvement on campus, why you want to be an RA, what your leadership experience has been  and what  goals youd like to accomplish as an RA.What theyre looking for: Residence life professional staff are looking for people who come from a wide range of experiences. Be honest about what youve been involved in, where your interests are  and what youre most passionate about. Conversely, if you havent been that involved, be honest about that- and that you are now looking to become more involved in an RA role (and why). Your new potential boss(es) will be looking for people who are engaged with their community, want to be a part of building a community and are thoughtful about their role on campus.   Step Two: The Group Interview What youll be asked to do: You may be asked to participate in a  group interview, where youll be put in a small group with other applicants. Youll most likely have to introduce yourself and participate in team-building and problem-solving exercises- all while being observed.What theyre looking for: Your potential new employers are looking for candidates who work well with others, who are self-confident, who listen well, and who demonstrate leadership skills. Remember, however, that this doesnt mean you have to worry about leading your team through a possible challenge; leaders can also be quiet people in the background who see common ground, can help mediate conflict and provide positive reinforcement for others who may be struggling. Just make sure to be yourself while doing your best to work well with those in your group. Step Three: The Individual Interview What youll be asked to do: Youll have a much smaller interview with one (or two) full-time residence life staff members where youre the only candidate present. (This actually may come before or after a group interview, if there is one.) While this may sound nerve-racking, it can actually be less stressful than the group interview process. Youll be asked questions similar to the ones you saw on the  application you first submitted.What theyre looking for: This is the most important time to be yourself, as your interviewer(s) is most likely looking for someone who is a good listener and that can make other people comfortable. Make sure to be relaxed and friendly, make good eye contact  and be honest in your answers. Additionally, be prepared to think on your feet: Your interviewer(s) may ask you how youd handle a variety of scenarios an RA may encounter or ask you to share an experience where you helped mediate a conflict.  Keep yourself focused and do your best to communicate th at youre a smart, friendly, helpful person that will make a great addition to next years RA  staff. Statistics on SAT Math Strategies for Mean, Median, Mode SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips SAT statistics questions usually involve finding the mean, median, and/or mode(s) of a set of numbers. You have probably dealt with with these concepts in your high school math classes but, as always, the SAT likes to put their own special twist on simple concepts such as these. Whether or not you are familiar with these terms and the techniques needed to find a mean, median, or mode, this guide is for you. SAT questions are always tricky and knowing how to handle their version of these types of questions will serve you well as you go through your test. This will be your complete guide to SAT means, medians, and modes- what they mean, how you'll see them on the test, and how to solve even the most complicated of SAT statistics questions. What Are Means, Medians, and Modes? Before we look at how to solve these kinds of problems, let us define our terms: A mean is the statistical average of a group of numbers, found by adding up the sum of the numbers and then dividing by the amount of numbers in the group. What is the average test score for the class if five students received scores of: 92, 81, 45, 95, and 68? We must find the sum of all the numbers and then divide that number by the total amount, which in this case is 5. ${(92+81+45+95+68)}/5$ $={381}/5$ $=76.2$ The mean (average) test score is 72.6. The median in a set is the number directly in the middle of the set of numbers after they have been arranged in order. (Note: the number will be halfway into the set, but is NOT necessarily the mid-value.) For instance, in a set of numbers {2, 4, 5, 47, 99}, the median would be 5 as it is in the middle of the set, despite the fact that 5 is NOT halfway between 2 and 99. If you are given an even number of terms in the set, then you must take the mean (average) of both middle numbers. Find the median value of the set of numbers {4, 12, 15, 3, 7, 10}. First, arrange the numbers in order from least to greatest. 3, 4, 7, 10, 12, 15 We have an even number of terms in our set, so we must take the average of the two middle terms. ${(7+10)}/2$ $={17}/2$ $=8.5$ Our median is 8.5 The mode of a set of numbers is the number or numbers that repeat the most frequently. In the set of numbers {3, 4, 3, 4, 4, 5, 12}, our mode is 4. Even though the number 3 occurred twice, the number 4 occurred three times and is thus our most frequently appearing number. If each number in your set occurs only once, there is no mode. In the set of numbers {1, 13, 8, 42, 11}, there is no mode, since no number repeats. If multiple numbers in a set repeat the same number of times, your set will have more than one mode. In the set {1, 2, 2, 2, 5, 5, 5, 7, 8, 8, 8}, we have three modes- 2, 5, and 8. All three numbers occur exactly three times and no other numbers occur more frequently. Thus we have multiple modes. Ba-dum tss! Typical Mean, Median, and Mode Questions Because the statistical concepts of mean, median, and mode are fundamentally simple (and likely quite familiar to most of you), the SAT will try to complicate mean, median, and mode questions as much as they are able. Unfortunately, these kinds of twists on simple concepts can come in a variety of different forms. For mean questions, they may ask you for the average of a set with variables, or they may ask you to find the value to which the sum of a set of numbers must be raised or lowered in order to find a particular average. Just keep in mind, that no matter how odd the question appears to be, the process for finding the mean is unchanging. If $x$ is the average (arithmetic mean) of $m$ and 9, $y$ is the average of $2m$ and 15, and $z$ is the average of $3m$ and 18, what is the average of $x$, $y$, and $z$ in terms of $m$? A) $m+6$ B) $m+7$ C) $2m+14$ D) $3m+21$ There are a lot of variables in this equation, but don't let them confuse you. We already know that the average of two numbers is the sum of those two numbers divided by 2. That means that: $x = {m+9}/{2}$ $y= {2m+15}/{2}$ $z= {3m+18}/{2}$ Now we need to find the average of $x$, $y$, and $z$. The average of three numbers is the sum of those numbers divided by 3, or ${x+y+z}/{3}$. Substituting the previous expressions for $m$ gives us: $[{m+9}/{2} +{2m +15}/{2} + {3m+15}/{2}]/3$ We can simplify that fraction to ${6m+42}/{6}$ Or $m+7$. Our final answer is B, $\bi m \bo{+} \bo 7$. As for questions on medians, the SAT will often try to present you with a set of very large numbers or a set of numbers with some amount that are missing. This question is asking about the median which, as you know, we find by sorting the numbers in ascending order. There were a total of 600 data points collected (300 from each school) which means the median will be between the 300th and 301st numbers. Fortunately, there's a way to solve the problem without having to write out 600 numbers! You can put the numbers into groups based on the information you're given in the chart. For each number of siblings value, add the number of respondents from each of the two schools together. For example, 120 students from Lincoln School and 140 students from Washington School said they had no siblings, and $120+140=260$. So a total of 260 students have 0 siblings. Do this for each of the sibling values. 260 students have 0 siblings 190 students have 1 sibling 90 students have 2 siblings 40 students have 3 siblings 20 students have 4 siblings. Now assign each of those groups values ordered from smallest (0 siblings) to largest (4 siblings) so that your data is properly sorted. Values 1 through 260 will be 0. Values 261 through 450 will be 1. Values 451 through 540 will be 2. Values 541 through 580 will be 3. Values 581 through 600 will be 4. Both the 300th and the 301st values are 1, so the median is 1. Our final answer is B, 1. The newest version of the SAT also includes logic questions. These questions don't require you to do any calculations, but you need to have a strong grasp of statistics to be able to answer them. A study was done on the weights of different types of fish in a pond. A random sample of fish were caught and marked in order to ensure that none were weighed more than once. The sample contained 150 largemouth bass, of which 30% weighed more than 2 pounds. Which of the following conclusions is best supported by the sample data? A) The majority of all fish in the pond weigh less than 2 pounds. B) The average weight of all fish in the pond is approximately 2 pounds. C) Approximately 30% of all fish in the pond weigh more than 2 pounds. D) Approximately 30% of all largemouth bass in the pond weigh more than 2 pounds. For logic questions like these, the best way to attack them is to read through the information you're given then, go through each answer choice and determine if it's true. In the question, we're told that: A random sample of fish in a pond were caught, none more than once The sample included 150 largemouth bass 30% of those largemouth bass weighed more than 2 pounds Now let's go through the answer choices. A: This is incorrect because it says the majority of all fish weigh less than 2 pounds. We don't know if this is true or not because the question only gives us information on the weight of largemouth bass. We don't know how much the other types of fish in the pound weigh. B: Again, we can't answer questions about all the fish in the pond because we are only given information on largemouth bass. C: Once again, we can't make generalizations about all the fish in the pond. If the question was just asking about largemouth bass, then it'd be true, since it matches with the data we were given, but since it doesn't, it's incorrect. D: This choice asks only about largemouth bass, which is a good start. And, yes, this answer choice fits with the information we were given in the question. Since 30% of the random sample of largemouth bass collected weighed more than 2 pounds, it's logical to conclude that 30% of all the largemouth bass in the pound weigh more than 2 pounds. This is the correct answer! This question was testing your knowledge of what assumptions are logical and which are not based on the data you're given. Since we were only given information about the weight of largemouth bass, only statements about largemouth bass specifically have the possibility of being supported by our data. Our final answer is D. And lastly, mode questions are actually quite rare on the SAT. You should know what a "mode" means on the off chance that you will see a mode question on the test, but chances are you will only be asked about means and/or medians. It can be tempting to solve problems like these in your head, but a single misplaced digit is the difference between a correct answer and a wrong answer penalty. In order to avoid making careless mistakes, always take a moment to write out your problem. It will not take as long as you think to reorganize your values and it will almost always highlight the path towards perfection. #3: Use PIA/PIN When Necessary If you find yourself stuck on a problem and have some extra time to spare, don't hesitate to use the strategies of plugging in answers or plugging in numbers where applicable. Always keep in mind that it will often take you a little longer to solve a problem using these techniques, but doing so will almost always lead you to the right answer. For example: The average (arithmetic mean) of 6, 19, and $x$ is 19. What is the value of $x$? A) 19B) 25C) 31D) 32 Let us say this was a problem you found yourself stuck on, but you luckily had some spare time before the section was over. Well, now is the time to use PIA! We will be replacing our answer options with the value of $x$ and solving the problem as normal. As usual with PIA, let us start with the middle answer choice and go up or down from there. This means that we will plug in answer choice C, 31, in place of our $x$ value. We are trying to find the mean of 3 numbers, 6, 19, and 31, and seeing if we can get 19. So let us find the mean: ${6+19+31}/3$ $={56}/3$ $=18.67$ Our mean is just slightly too small. This means that we can eliminate answer choice C as well as answer choices A and B (as they are even smaller and will thus produce an even smaller mean). Our answer is likely going to be D, as E is much larger and will give us a far greater mean than 19. So let us test answer choice D, 32, to be sure. ${6+19+32}/3$ $={57}/3$ $=19$ Success! This question is asking about the median, so let us first start by arranging our numbers in ascending order. 3, 4, 10, 15, 18, 21 We are told that x is our median, so it must lie in the middle of our set. This puts it between 10 and 15. 3, 4, 10, $x$, 15, 18, 21 This means that the only answer choice x could possibly be is D, 14. All the other answer choices are too large or too small. Our final answer is D, 14. 2. Because we are working with variables, we have two ways we can solve this problem- with algebra or using plugging in numbers. Let us go through both methods. Method 1: Algebra We are told that the mean of $t$ and $t+2$ equals $x$, so let us find the value of $x$ by manipulating the mean of $t$ and $t+2$. ${t+(t+2)}/{2}=x$ ${2t+2}/{2}=x$ We can reduce the value of the fraction here, since $2t+2$ can be divided by 2. Which means we are left with: $t+1=x$ Now let us use the same process for y, which we are told is the mean of $t$ and $t−2$ ${t+(t-2)}/{2}=y$ ${2t-2}/{2}=y$ Again, we can reduce our fraction, since $2t−2$ can be divided by 2. Our final answer is C, $t$. Method 2: Plugging in numbers Alternatively, we can skip having to use algebra and plug in our own number for $t$ in order to solve the problem. Let us say that $t=10$ and solve the problem from there. (Why 10? Why not!) This means that the mean of $t$ and $t+2$ still equals $x$. So: ${t+(t+2)}/{2}=x$ ${10+(10+2)}/{2}=x$${22}/{2}=x$ $11=x$ And we will use the same value for $t$ and the same process to find $y$: ${t+(t-2)}/{2}=y$ ${10+(10-2)}/{2}=y$ ${18}/{2}=y$ $9=y$ Now, we can find the mean of $x$ and $y$. ${11+9}/{2}$ $=20/2$ $=10$ And, since we said that $t=10$, the mean of $x$ and $y$ also equals $t$. Our final answer is C, $t$. 3. This is a logic question, so we'll have to reason through it rather than doing calculations. First let's go over the information we're given. The mean and media of a set of data are equal when the data has a perfectly symmetrical distribution (such as a normal distribution). If the mean and median aren't equal to each other, that means the data isn't symmetrical and that there are outliers. Outliers are a small group of values that are significantly smaller or larger than the other values in the data. When there are outliers in the data, the mean will be pulled in their direction (either smaller or larger) while the median remains the same. In this problem, the mean is larger than the median. That means the outliers are several homes that are significantly more expensive than the rest, since these outliers push the mean to be larger without affecting the median. Choice A is incorrect because if the house values were all similar to each other, the mean and median would be similar in value. Choice B is incorrect because if the outliers were valued at much less than the rest of houses, the mean would be smaller than the median which is the opposite of what is happening. Choice D is incorrect because if most of the homes were worth between $\$ 125,000$ and $\$ 165,000$, then the mean and median would likely both be in the middle of that range which isn't the case; they're on the ends of that range. Therefore, our final answer is C: there are a few homes that are valued much more than the rest. 4. If the mean score of 8 players is 14.5, then the total of those 8 scores is $14.5 * 8 =116$. If the mean of 7 scores is 12, then the total of those 7 scores is $12 * 7 =84$. Since the set of 7 scores was created by removing the highest score from the set of 8 scores, the difference between the total of all 8 scores and the set of 7 scores is equal to the removed score. $116-84 = 32$ Our final answer is C, 32. Therefore, the harm of passive smoking is a broad consensus of the professional associations of physicians on the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations and the Cancer Research Centers of different countries. There are 161 States which acceded to the Framework Convention of the World Health Organizations Tobacco Control, including Austria and Germany (Kolodner & Barbarino, 2011). The tobacco industry has been trying for decades to negate the effects of passive smoking on health through specially funded research. In the "Social Report 2006/07 - Responsibility in Dialogue" by British American Tob acco Institute, it is shown that it is in support of catering to the establishment of Smoking and Non Smoking areas as well as to improve the indoor air quality to take an ethically and morally sound action through the mode of corporate social responsibility (Johnson, 2011).
